Loving God (1)

There are different types of love. We can talk of Agape love, which is the love of God to man (it exists only in this context); philia love, which is normal innocent affection towards a party; eros love, which is love born out of lustful desire. There are also the storge, ludus, pragma, philautia types of love.
It is important that we shun the eros type of love and strengthen our innocent affection to all men. The interesting thing is that the agape love of God cannot be enjoyed if we do not increase our philia love. And at the same time, you cannot strengthen your philia love if you do not make strong the working of the agape love.
Making strong the agape love is reciprocating that love back to God. Loving God is the door to loving men. When we have God in our life, then we will be able to live the God kind of life- loving others. So loving God is the first step to loving our neighbours as our self. You can’t build the roof of a house before its foundation.
Receiving that love of God is reciprocating His love. For God so love the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever receives Him, would not perish but have everlasting life. Simply put, for God gave His love to us, that if we accept it, we will enjoy everlasting life. Note that everlasting life here, is not life after death, it is the living of the life that God first intended for man in the beginning.
Jesus talking about loving God said, ‘love God with your all…’He meant love God with your heart- inward affection. Affection is the feeling of loving. Let you love for God come from within you. Most times, we see God as the church entity that my parents introduced me to or as what everybody is talking about and so we show no caring attitude.
Looking at God’s affection towards us, He created us out of a strong desire, even in His own very image. After creation, He preserved us so that we can still fulfil purpose. We owe Him our strong affection. What do we have affection for? What position has God taken in our lives?
It is better to put God first in all we do, making Him number one in our life, putting Him above family, career, relationship, academics, football, fashion, movies etc. Put God first.
